History of the Local Language and Literature Education Study Programme
The Local Language and Literature Education Study Programme is an undergraduate programme under the Faculty of Language, Arts, and Education (FLAE), Universitas PGRI Semarang, which plays an important role in preserving, developing, and promoting local language, literature, and cultural education. The programme was established as part of the university’s commitment to preparing professional educators and cultural practitioners who possess pedagogical competence, linguistic expertise, literary appreciation, cultural awareness, and the ability to adapt to the development of science and technology.
The Local Language and Literature Education Study Programme at Universitas PGRI Semarang was officially established on 12 April 2013 based on Decree Number 104/E/O/2013, and later experienced institutional development following the transformation of the institution into Universitas PGRI Semarang on 17 April 2014 based on the Ministry of Education and Culture Decree Number 143/P/2014. Since its establishment, the study programme has continuously contributed to the development of local language and literature education by integrating cultural values, educational innovation, and professional competencies.
Throughout its development, the Local Language and Literature Education Study Programme has consistently enhanced the quality of education through curriculum improvement, innovative teaching and learning approaches, research activities, community engagement, and collaboration development. Its commitment to quality assurance was demonstrated by achieving B Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) based on Decree Number 2250/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2016 dated 13 October 2016. As part of its continuous quality improvement efforts, the programme successfully achieved the highest accreditation rating, “Excellent” (Unggul) from the Independent Accreditation Agency for Education (LAMDIK) based on Decree Number 527/SK/LAMDIK/A/S/V/2025. This accreditation is valid for five years, from 6 May 2025 to 5 May 2030.
The Local Language and Literature Education Study Programme focuses on the development of knowledge and expertise in the fields of Personality Development Studies, Linguistics, Literary Studies, Language and Literary Education, Entrepreneurship in Language, Literature and Education, as well as Language Proficiency and Language Skills. Through a curriculum designed to be completed within 4 years (8 semesters) with a total study load of 144 credits (216 ECTS), the programme is committed to producing graduates who have professional competencies in teaching local languages, conducting linguistic and literary studies, preserving cultural heritage, developing educational innovations, and applying language skills in various professional contexts.
The Local Language and Literature Education Study Programme continues to be committed to improving the quality of education through strengthening learning processes, developing research, implementing community engagement programmes, and expanding collaborations at national and international levels. Supported by professional academic staff, a culture-based adaptive curriculum, and an innovative academic environment, the programme strives to produce excellent graduates with strong character, cultural awareness, and professional competence who are able to contribute meaningfully to the preservation and development of local language, literature, education, and society.
